Her passion for empowering individuals of all abilities and ages through the transformative power of martial arts has set her on an inspiring path.

In 2009, Sensei Rachelle embarked on a profound journey by venturing into the realm of special needs. This marked the beginning of her impactful engagement with this community, and it was here that she discovered her purpose. Her association with special needs individuals has grown organically, and she’s been involved in various capacities, from working in schools to participating in IEP meetings. This experience equipped her with an invaluable insight into addressing a wide array of situations and challenges that special needs individuals may face.

Sensei Rachelle’s martial arts journey took root at the tender age of 6, when her parents enrolled her in karate classes. Little did they know that this decision would not only instill confidence, social skills, and physical fitness but also lay the foundation for a lifelong dedication. Over the years, Sensei Rachelle’s journey has been characterized by personal growth and the discovery of her own strengths. As she grappled with challenges like ADHD, Dyslexia, and Anxiety, martial arts became a refuge that nurtured focus, calmness, and a sense of purpose.

Her achievements in the realm of martial arts are nothing short of impressive. She holds multiple Black Belts across different styles, including a Master’s Degree in Shotokan karate.

Notably, Sensei Rachelle achieved a significant milestone by becoming the second woman in the United States to attain a black belt in the esteemed Chukidokwan style, a feat her mother had previously accomplished. Her prowess extends to international recognition as a National Champion and a silver and bronze medalist in WKC world championships.

One of Sensei Rachelle’s most significant contributions to the martial arts community is the creation of the Special Ninjas Therapeutic Martial Arts program. This innovative program is a reflection of her profound belief in the potential of differently-abled individuals. By merging her extensive experience in martial arts with her passion for special needs advocacy, she has devised a program that caters to the unique needs of individuals with physical and mental disabilities. Sensei Rachelle’s connection with her students is deeply rooted in her own journey, as she navigates her challenges with empathy and understanding.

Her favorite aspect of working with special needs individuals is witnessing their triumphs, regardless of the scale. For parents who may harbor skepticism about karate for special needs individuals, Sensei Rachelle offers reassurance. She is a firm believer in the power of creative modification and adaptation. Regardless of the severity of a disability, she tailors her teaching methods to ensure the best chance of success. Her ability to break down techniques and make them accessible underscores her commitment to inclusivity and growth.
