Meet the Owner of Special Ninjas Therapeutic Martial Arts, Head Instructor.
Ra’chelle is the creator and the sole instructor of the individualized program created for all special needs students, called Special Ninjas. Ra’chelle saw great potential in differently-abled people and she knew karate was something they could be included in and have fun with all while working on their therapy needs.

In 2009, Sensei Rachelle embarked on a profound journey by venturing into the realm of special needs. This marked the beginning of her impactful engagement with this community, and it was here that she discovered her purpose. Her association with special needs individuals has grown organically, and she’s been involved in various capacities, from working in schools to participating in IEP meetings. This experience equipped her with an invaluable insight into addressing a wide array of situations and challenges that special needs individuals may face.
Sensei Rachelle’s martial arts journey took root at the tender age of 6, when her parents enrolled her in karate classes. Little did they know that this decision would not only instill confidence, social skills, and physical fitness but also lay the foundation for a lifelong dedication. Over the years, Sensei Rachelle’s journey has been characterized by personal growth and the discovery of her own strengths. As she grappled with challenges like ADHD, Dyslexia, and Anxiety, martial arts became a refuge that nurtured focus, calmness, and a sense of purpose.
Her achievements in the realm of martial arts are nothing short of impressive. She holds multiple Black Belts across different styles, including a Master’s Degree in Shotokan karate.
Notably, Sensei Rachelle achieved a significant milestone by becoming the second woman in the United States to attain a black belt in the esteemed Chukidokwan style, a feat her mother had previously accomplished. Her prowess extends to international recognition as a National Champion and a silver and bronze medalist in WKC world championships.
One of Sensei Rachelle’s most significant contributions to the martial arts community is the creation of the Special Ninjas Therapeutic Martial Arts program. This innovative program is a reflection of her profound belief in the potential of differently-abled individuals. By merging her extensive experience in martial arts with her passion for special needs advocacy, she has devised a program that caters to the unique needs of individuals with physical and mental disabilities. Sensei Rachelle’s connection with her students is deeply rooted in her own journey, as she navigates her challenges with empathy and understanding.

We find that our students become more confident to stand up to bullies and have more humility and kindness to others through their martial arts lessons.
We don’t require parents to stay during classes. However, we do find that parents who get involved with their kids martial arts lessons, truly build a solid connection as they see their child grow in confidence and skill as they progress through their belt ranks. And building strong family units is important to us at Allen’s American Martial Arts for our Toledo community.
Make sure you wear comfortable clothes you can do sport in! Not really suitable to practice kicks in a skirt.😳

Yes! One of the great things about martial arts classes, is that it’s an individual sport, done in a group environment. We find all our students improve in their focus, self control, discipline and social skills. But the best part is…. They don’t even realise that is what our highly trained Kids Martial Arts Instructors are actually doing. They just think they are having fun!

We encourage parents to watch their children in their kids martial arts lessons. We love parents getting involved! And so do their kids. Even better… join into some of our martial arts classes for adults. Your kids will love that you have something in common. It will build a strong family bond!

Not at all. You will find that martial arts classes are the PERFECT sport for kids who are not good at sport. Kids martial arts classes really are an individual after school activity, that they do in a group.
The journey from white belt to black belt is different for each student. But what is the same…. They improve co-ordination, balance, motor skills, focus and discipline. Plus, they makes lots of great friends!
Our Instructors are highly skilled in teaching martial arts for kids. Really… It’s their PASSION!
This is probably the BEST kids activity for children who sit a lot!
Getting them active, without them realising they are learning, is our skill. Kicking and punching pads is such a great stress relief, that kids blossom in all areas – because of their martial arts training.
